my entries for catching the light

Dear BiTwin, fellow PNEHs, painters, poets, Mai Quang and Forum friends,

"Well, my eyes are full of stars
But I just can't reach 'em... oh, how high they are
I gotta believe what I'm thinking can come true
But in a modern world that can be so hard to do"
( from Rise to the sun by Alabama Shakes)
I wish I could catch the light from the stars to submit as entry, but I had to settle for what I was able to do.
So here are my entries. The first one was a photo of a little portion of the gigantic Swarovski chandelier at the lobby of Top of the Rock. The picture was taken this Wednesday when I went to Rockefeller Center to check out Jacques Torres's chocolate shop.
The second one was a piece of ice I picked up from the ground of my garden and placed on the leaves to catch the light for the photo shoot. It kept falling on the ground and chipping away to finally become a heart shape (morale of the story for me: often things do happen for a reason, and what seemed not to work out at first, did turn out to be better in the end:-))
The third photo was also taken on the same Wednesday, on my way back to the office.

And finally, as a substitu
te for the light from the stars, a beautiful song by Alabama Shakes which I heard for the first time yesterday when my son gave me a ride and so I learned something new from him :-).

Have a nice weekend everyone

Showing Movements

Hi all,

Action photography is always one of my strong interest, and thus my
success rate of "freezing movement" is not too bad so far. On the
other hand, "showing movements" of fast moving subjects is always
challenging. The technique I usually used is "panning": pan your
camera along the same direction with your subject & matching the speed
of your subject. This technique is quite challenging & tough to master
(it's very easy for your main subject is not in focus due to the slow
shutter speed), but we always get rewarded when our attempts are
successful.

Here are some pictures employing this technique. The first 2 captured
in Vietnam, circa 2010 & the birds were captured in 2012.

MOVEMENT

Hi MC, BT & friends

Hmm... capturing motion is too advanced for my beginner photography level... but here are some shots of tango dancing taken in Buenos Aires... there are many milongas (kind of discos where you dance the tango) all over the city, and the first photo was shot in a public park in the evening, love watching these mix & match couples swaying away... the other photos are from other Tango dancers in the street and in cafes... indeed lots of sensual and studied movements...

If you are interested to see more of our trip to Uruguay, Argentina and Iguazu, here's the link...

Cheers
Caro

more MOVEMENT

Thanks MC

Here is an add'l entry for MOVEMENT, don't laugh, it's my poor effort to try to capture movement with my camera and picked a supposedly slow moving subject i.e. tortoises, but even they are too fast for my camera : ))

Cheers
Caro
