BiTi,
Here's another entry for the theme Clocks, watches, and instruments to measure time. It's a sympathy note to my older son, who lost one of his best friends a couple of weeks ago - a lovely girl with a radiant smile and a huge heart; her dash was heartbreakingly short, but it was a brilliant dash.
(The photo was taken by my niece Justine Hồng-Giang.)

Dear M-U,
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful note for such a sad occasion, please
share my sympathy with your son, I am certain his young
friend will continue to smile with her radiant smile from
up there beyond the clouds and the brilliant dash she
left behind will continue to be an inspiration for her
beloved family and friends.
I love your poems and your niece is very talented too
(a Mai Hong family trait no doubt :-))

Hello Mai Uyen
ReplyDeleteFor all the sadness that permeated throught out,
it was truly a beautiful, moving poem
a lovely tribute to a life journey unexpectingly cut short,
of unfulfilled expectations, dashed hopes and broken dreams
Eloquently composed, beautifully presented with quiet elegance,
the ode to a brilliant youth forever lost, as time seemingly stood still,
did struck a beautiful cord, resonating with love and compassion
Thanks for sharing such a poetic, lyrical eulogy
that touched our hearts, and lifted our spirits
Quang
Thank you, Quang, for your beautiful note.

ReplyDeleteThank you for your kind notes.
Talia wasn't just a close friend to Kim (part of a group of friends who believe you can do well by doing good), they were colleagues at a firm that does health/infrastructure projects in Africa. They also shared a townhouse, so they would walk to/from work together. When Kim called to tell us the news (Talia was hit by a car while jogging), he cried so hard we couldn't understand what he was saying.
I still remember giving Talia dating advice, a few months ago when Kim and I were on the phone and she burst into the room all excited by a first date she had just had...
