Buildings in Los Angeles

Dear MC & Romantic PNEH Friends,Luckily, I have some pictures in L.A. from my photo class to share:

The Walt Disney Concert Hall is a pretty artistically construction in Downtown Los Angeles. There is a famous alley to walk to the Hall that is so fantastic to see as well.

& the Blue Building is the famous Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood area named the "Blue Whale" ( where the post-Oscar parties are held )

Hope you enjoy some of the Los Angeles landscape

Cheers from Liem

  1. Very interesting compositions, KL. I like the first one the most. Did you photoshop the second one to get the yellow sky effect?

  4. Hello Khanh Liem

It must be quite a good feeling, if not a big relief, to have 3 striking pictures
on hand, ready and available, with the upcoming theme Building finally here
Of the trio, the one standing out in its own allure, an abyss of an alley,
a long winding road seemingly to a mystic, magical place worthy of the
    fabled Disney name

Equally appealing are the asymetrical, fancy structures that housed the
Walt Disney Concert Hall, the whimsical elements in an ever changing LA
landscape, well projected under the illuminated, enchanting sky light

Last, but not least, a serene, dazzling touch of Blue, the Pacific Design Center
an oasis of tranquility amid the never ending, flowing traffic,
an ideal, fitting venue for memorable occasions

  6. Hi All! This short email is to thank Khanh Liem for the beautiful photos and say hello to the MC forum. Liem is a great photographer as well as a wonderful model for her husband Dinh's photography. I have seen family portraits snapped by Dinh over the years and they are truly breathtaking in their intimacy and great attention to detail.

It is nice for Liem to get fan mail from Quang, Hy Hoa, Mai Chau, and Triet about her photography. Hy Hoa, you are right! The architect is Frank Gehry and he also designed the Guggenheim museum in Bilbao, Spain, la Cinematheque Francaise in Paris, and Jay Pritzker Pavilion at Millennium Park in Chicago. We used to live in Wisconsin which was the home of Frank Lloyd Wright, another great American architect.

Thank you Mai Chau for the lovely collage of Grand Central Terminal in Manhattan. NYC is one of my favorite cities in the world! I have taken the Amtrak train from Union Station near Capitol Hill in Washington DC to New York City once to visit my Venezuelan friend Maribel at the United Nations. Another time, my husband was at a weeklong training at Yale University so I took the same train to New Haven to meet him there and we toured Cape Cod together. We made sure to stop in NYC for some good food in Chinatown. I took my friend Maribel and her sister Sylvana to the top of the World Trade Center in September 1999, two years before it was destroyed by jihadists. They didn't want to do it at first so I had to offer to pay for their tickets. After I got the tickets it was more difficult for them to say no!

My husband and I don't take pictures any more after we reached our fifth decade but we try to stay in touch with our friends through writing. He has been taking a creative writing classes for several years and enjoys cranking out poetry and short essays. He goes to poetry readings once a week to support his poet friends. I just write to friends, both within and outside the MC forum, whenever I can. When we need fresh air, he goes fly-fishing in the mountain streams (he ties his own artificial flies and is very clever with his hands) and I putter outside in the yard or fuss over my 32 orchids inside the house.

I would like to wish all of you a pleasant work week and send hugs to my close friends on the forum. Thank you Caro Nhu Hoa for the email on royalty. Take care.

  7. dear Khanh Liem,

As a lover of modern Architecture and architecture tout court,
I had the honor of meeting Frank O. Gehry, I. M. Pei ( 4 Seasons,
NY), Philip Johnson (died in 2005), Jean Nouvel, and many others...
in person and visiting most of their masterpieces, thanks to my ex,
an architect Genevois, former President of the Swiss Arch. Association.
I'm an absolute fan of Marcel Breuer, Mies van Der Rohe,Walter
Gropius,Le Corbusier...,those strong personalities that have marked
    the time and history.
Undoubtedly, I like very much the 1st photo. Thank you for sharing
    my passion through your camera.
