Fw: [MC74 and Friends] Contrast

Hi friends

I love Tuan's photo with the poupees Russes, they fit very well with the theme as they are such colorful, cheerful, cartoonish & gigantic figures compared to real people

I'm just back in LA for a week-end after a trip to Hong Kong, and to Miami. My plane from Miami was delayed for over 4 hours due to technical problem first, then due to the weather, then the plane had to go back to the terminal and they announced that they had to wait for another flight coming from Dallas to switch plane for the LA flight. As soon as we deplaned, I ran to the lounge to reticket and luckily managed to get the last seat on another flight back to LA, but it was still a 6 hours delay, and I didn't get home till midnight... Flying again to Europe on Monday!!! Seems like I'm living on airplanes...

Anyhow, in all this madness, I managed to find a moment of sanity and pure enjoyment by visiting the LACMA (LA Museum of Modern Art) couple of days before I left for Hong Kong. At the time, I wasn't aware yet of the contrast theme, but I think that these 3 entries could fit the bill (Aside from the current Tim Burton exhibition where no photography is allowed, one can freely take non-flash photos of the other exhibits...)

- The First Entry is a study of shape and color contrast, rounded comforting globes in snowmen white against a sharp angular artwork in vivid red

The Second Entry is a Black & White, Positive & Negative study of Contrast

The Third Entry is from a master of contrast, Picasso - Portrait of Man & Woman
Study of contrast between Agression/Peace, Sharpness/Softness, Violence/Surrender, Armor/Nudity and Fantasy/Reality...

Cheers
Caro

  1. Hi Caro,
Thanks for your beautiful entries, specially when you were having such a hectic schedule.
The contrasts captured by your camera are so varied and interesting! They are proof of your great sense of observation and appreciation of visual arts.

  2. Hello Caro

Living an exciting life on the run, from one moment to the next,
out of a suitcase, or so it seemed, to keep the adrenaline going,
the creative juices flowing, seems quite a fun to go

Just as fun and captivating as the 3 entertaining pictures taken at LACMA,
the diverse takes that spoke volume, if not loudly, on the theme of contrast,
the very idea that opposite, in various shapes or forms, was the driving force in making any kind of illustrations so attractive

With barely some little time to enjoy, back in LA, home, sweet home,
before embarking on your next trip in Europe, this coming Monday
Have a Fun, Relaxing Weekend with your Loved Ones

  3. Hi BT, Quang, KL, Tuan & Friends

    Thanks for your nice comments.
Quang oi, not sure if this is qualified as "exciting life", to me it's really hard work... Imagine, I will have traveled to 4 continents in less than a month... luckily I enjoy my work and take advantage of some R&R, but really, I'd rather stay home more often and enjoy my other hobbies like golf and baking/cooking...

    Cheers

  5. Hi HIen

I also enjoy some of Tim Burton's movies like Nightmare before Christmas, Edward Scisorhands, Alice in Wonderland, and of course Charlie and the Chocolate Factory! He is so creative and has such dark humor! At the LACMA they also showed some of the artwork from famous artists that inspired Tim Burton's movie characters, very interesting!

    Cheers
