Fw: [MC74 and Friends] Tasting pleasure - - for those with sturdy hearts only !

Hi Cao Tieu Thu, BiTi, EmCi, PNEH, friends,

Reading your and Duc's postings reminds me of a picture I took a while back. Waking up one lazy morning weekend and looking out the window without my glasses and eyes half shut, I thought there was something unusual in the back yard. After grabbing my glasses and very much still half asleep, but being a pho nhom wannabe even then, I fumbled around to look for the newly bought P&S camera. Using the maximum zoom power (only 10X) and through the window's glass and screen, here's my second entry of the week:

"Weekend Feast" J

The bird of prey is a red tailed hawk.  With extremely sharp hearing and vision, he soon realized that someone is watching him, unpolitely and like a hawk, he flew off to a highest tree branch and finish his meal uninterrupted and no doubt with great pleasure…

Re: [MC74 and Friends] theme for next week project - TASTING PLEASURES

My son cooked for me on my birthday that year. The best steak I ever ate.

Dux,
Here I am, I have come for you, in your little corner.
Who dares say that this young man is not happy ?
If he's telling us that the paella is disgusting, he is
a hell of liar !
My entry for " Tasting Pleasure". Duà dzai.

Fw: Tasting Pleasure

Dear all PAPNEH and friends,

I'd like to share with you some tasting pleasure and dis-pleasure as well.  All of these are things
I tasted for the first time in my life last year.

Let's start first with the displeasure (luckily there was only one :-))  This will come across as
a sacrilege to some of you no doubt... but I found cassoulet to be a total turn-off.  It is so rich,
that I could hardly finish … one bite ! I guess you have to like baked beans to like cassoulet :-)

From Carcassone with displeasure :-P  …....... le cassoulet !

Then the most surprising pleasure is this reine-claude prune soaked in liqueur and eau de vie I tasted in St Emilion, a must tasting pleasure.

On to tasting pleasures for the sweet toothed :-)    Croquants aux noisettes, amandes, noix, you name it ... you'll find them all over the Carcassone,
Albi, Cordes area. They are quite delicious, very thin and croquant and not too sweet.  YUM!

Then in the Basque area,  you have the gateau basque, a tasting pleasure … if you  like almond paste or marzipan coz it's filled with it :-)
Paries the La Duree of Biarritz and St Jean de Luz

Of the many local versions of … macaron (all much bigger in size than their Parisian counterparts) the mouchous (muxu in basque = bisou) below
are pretty good.

Then there are the touron - sort of like nougat but softer and sweeter, more like marzipan.  They also come in very colorful rolls like sushis.

OK, I'll stop as  I think you are already ... over sweetened :-)

Fw: [MC74 and Friends] theme for next week project - TASTING PLEASURES

Dear fellows Pho' Nhoms\ en herbe, hoa. si~, thi si~ and our official art critic Mr. Kiu,

Here's my entry for this week's theme.  Although the "guess what?" theme has expired, but to "spice" things up a bit, anyone outside of the SJ area with the first correct identification of the yummy treat that BiTi and my better half were chomping to bits yesterday will be treated to a down home Texas BBQ on your next visit here, or to a "cha^`u pho"  at your local favorite Pho' s place (or anywhere for that matter) if we see each other, whichever comes first J

Have a good week,

Khiem

I am glad you liked the work : The Giant Fork is a metal sculpture peaking out of Lac Léman in front of the Alimentarium Museum in Vevey.  It has been gone for over 10 years but it's now back again for a limited time. It was created in 1995 by the Swiss artist Jean-Pierre Zaugg for the 10 years of the Museum. You can't miss it when you walk along the lake !

BTW Mai Châu, BT.... I found my entry, here we go !

Fw: [MC74 and Friends] tasting pleasures

Dear fellows PNEH, hoa si, thi si and Mr. Kiu,

Here is my first entry (more to come in the following days, if time permits :-) ) for Tasting pleasures.
I had the chance to visit the baby elephants orphanage in Nairobi, right at feeding time, between 11 am- noon (the baby elephants are fed every three hours). It was a joy to watch the baby elephants sucking their bottles of milk with such gusto. Hope you will enjoy the photo too (I know KL will :-))

Fw: [MC74 and Friends] My EGG entry

Dear Em Ci,

Welcome back from the land of the African Giant. We've missed you and your gentle (but persistent :-) email reminders! I know I have been mostly absent from the forum and am way behind in terms of emails and picture submissions. I have to resort to guerrilla tactics in terms of reading and responding to email, catching as catch can, reading and commenting as time permits, as there are still hundreds of emails yet unread. So without further ado, here's my submission for this week's theme, Eggs, a humble purple-themed Easter basket that pales in comparison to all the gorgeous submissions by the other pho nhom on both forums.

Thank you to you and BT again for your continued labor of love on the blog. I adore the most recent chef-d'oeuvre of the Montreux lake pictures set to Francoise Hardy music supplied by Triet.
