Fw: [MC74 and Friends] Fw: My entry for this week's theme: touching pleasure

Dear Friends,

Touching pleasure  … you asked?

Have you ever pet a Pom?

Walk barefoot in the sand?

been tickled with a cat's tail?

such simple pleasures :-)

take it from me BT.

PS> Philippe was my little prince. A fluffball of  silky hair, the cutest and smartest little Pom he was. I like to believe that now he is a cute fluffly little cloud in the sky in the day and a bright little star at night. And always, he'll remain always my beloved little Philippe …

Fw: [MC74 and Friends] Theme for the week: touching pleasure

Hi everybody,

Have not kept up with all your email lately, just been overworked!

My contribution for touching pleasure is my beloved Welsh Corgi, Rufio... Research has shown that a few minutes of stroking pets not only triggers "feel good" hormones like serotonin, it also incurs decreased levels of the stress hormone cortisol, which alleviates depression... So Rufio not only provides wonderful touching pleasure, his hair is soft and silky, he's a great and cheerful companion, and I love him to pieces and just cuddling him makes me happy!!! This photo is taken in a dog friendly beach in Long Beach, CA...

"Just do it!"

I was strolling on Union Square, saw this ... burst of energy suddenly appear right before my eyes!
At the time, i was shocked, it was so unbelievable! Reached for the camera, got this shot!
Now looking back,
i think it's because the fog (SF is famous for it) was quite low,
and the late afternoon sun from above was still shining into the windows,
and reflected back into the fog, hence the rays.
As the fog passed over really fast, the sun was blocked, and the rays disappeared.
Altogether, just a few minutes -- seconds even! -- of a stunning phenomenon!

Fw: [MC74 and Friends] Glycine bleue de mon coeur!

Dear MC forum friends:
I have about 5 minutes of break at work and can't think. About 15 minutes ago, I bent down to retrieve a dropped paperclip and as I sat back up, I hit my head hard against the edge of the heavy steel desk in my office. I now have a bump in the back of the cranium (and hopefully no hematoma later). Being conveniently in an unproductive daze, I wandered into our MC forum and came upon Thuy Chau's poem which completely and absolutely jolted my artistic sensibility. Since my brain is not working properly yet, I am going to rest it a bit by loosely translating Thuy Chau's poem into English. I dedicate my little ode to spring and the joy of gardening to our forum. I didn't get to hear any music because  when I tried twice to download music, nothing happened. It is a consolation that  we are forbidden to listen to music at work. Here we go:

Blue wisteria of my heart
Towards whom are you leaning?
You have forsaken me
To romance your hunky sweaty gardener
Thus Steve the master of his castle
Teases his snow-white azaleas
And tenderly winds around the white pillar
Crimson tea-scented camellias
Steve only has eyes for his flowers
And they only live for him
For them he has gone "green"
And offers them his choicest composted soil
For us his friends, he immortalizes
their floral beauty in photography
We see them stroll in splendid rows
And shout in unison: "Aren't we pretty?"
Oh blue wisteria of my heart
For your intoxicating scent
The hunky sweaty gardener
Labors day and night with his hands

OK, this is not a verbatim translation of Thuy Chau's masterpiece so you will see added or deleted words here and there which may change the meaning of each verse. It is freestyle poetry, meaning that I am not following any rules in particular and nothing rhymes. I have tried to keep it whimsical in order to remind us of the fickle and ephemeral beauty of spring. I didn't get to hear Duc or Triet's music because of  where I am when I email you but as I translate Thuy Chau's poem, I suddenly hear in my mind the lush lyrics of "Beautiful Maria of my Soul", a nice bolero/rhumba from the movie "The Mambo Kings". Does anyone in our forum remember this old film? Antonio Banderas wrote the lyrics in Spanish then sang it in the movie. Los Lobos wrote the English lyrics. At the Academy Awards ceremony, Antonio Banderas refused to sing the song so his fellow Spaniard Placido Domingo stepped forward and obliged the delighted audience. OK, my five minutes are over, the bump is still the same, my brain is less foggy, it's time to say good-bye to the MC forum and return to work reality with a thud. I would like to thank Thuy Hoa and Thuy Hao for writing me in the middle of their sorrow. I would also like to ask Doug Phan: "Weren't you sitting next to me at Quan Tao on New Year's Day?'
Hugs to all, friends or strangers,
Diep

Fw: [MC74 and Friends] Fwd: My entry for this week's theme "Transitions/Spring"

Cher Anh Tuan,
Tes fleurs sont tellement belles. Quel est ton secret? Ce n'est pas seulement la glycine qui te fait rêver. Avec toutes ces fleurs, ton jardin est un havre de beauté où camélias, azalées rivalisent en couleur. Bravo!

Glycine bleue de mon coeur
Vers qui donc t'es-tu penchée?
Tu m'as oubliée dans ton ardeur

Fw: [MC74 and Friends] Theme of the Week - Guess what?

Dear Kiu, MC, BT, TC, and Tuan,

Thank you all for your encouraging words. Mr. Kiu, you have such a way with words that I'm sometimes amazed at how you find so many ways to describe seemingly simple pictures and express your emotion/reaction to them. When I'm at a loss for words, can I borrow some from you :-)? BT, pray tell what's the prize for effort and persistence?

Tuan, thank you for sharing the gorgeous pictures of azaleas and camelias from your yard. The red camellias contrasted against the white column are a feast for the eyes, and the picture is going into my Favorites folder! I can see you're a loving gardener by the state of your beautifully tended garden. I love gardening too but my yard is showing the ravages of the harsh winter we just had, with its ice and wet snow storms inflicting severe damage to our dogwood and crepe myrtle trees. It's discouraging and disheartening to see how many trees will have to be replaced!

The pictures I sent were of hyancinths and forsythias. I love tulips but can't have any as they are devoured by the hordes of voracious deer living in the woods surrounding our property. Our azaleas are hit-or-miss each year, some years they get to bloom and others the deer eat them bare. There seem to be no real deer-proof plants, except maybe daffodils and irises which the deer inexplicably stay away from, and  hyancinths, roses, and lilacs because of their fragrance.

So as not to be a laggard yet again, I'm submitting a couple of entries for the Guess What theme. You all can guess the name of any of the landmarks in the first picture, and in the second, the statue location and name of the author. If they prove to be too easy, I promise I have others that are weirder and harder to decipher.

Fw: [MC74 and Friends] Theme of the Week - Transitions

Dear Hai Ba Chu Pho Nhom,

Attached is my (very late) entry for the Transitions theme. Wracking my brain all last week and this week, I couldn't think of a picture to submit, as it seems to be an "anything goes" theme. After all, isn't life about transition, passage, and change? Any and all living things are always in transition from one state to the next, because we all know what happens when we stop moving and changing - we're dead!

This Sunday dawns with a perfect opportunity for me to capture the transition between seasons: spring flowers blanketed by snow. Herewith are two pics that illustrate this theme (as well as my original suggested theme of spring).

Thank you for your continued good work, and deep thanks also go to all you talented pho nhom, poets, artists, and musicians on the forum who have continued to contribute such marvelous pictures, poems, music, and artwork. Though I struggle to keep up with the mail at times and am not always sure who took which picture, it's always a pleasure to view the results on the blog and marvel at the creativity of our forum members.

Hello Thuan,

What a beautiful poem! There is so many posts that I can't keep up reading. It was Be Lan who told me that you wrote a beautiful poem and I have to dig in to find it. But what a treasure! Thanks for sharing. Sorry to hear that California is battling with bad weather and rain. I hope that everything will soon be fine.
And in the mood for Unrequited Love here is mine.
Not as delicate as yours but I hope it's not too childish writing.
Anyway you will see how hard I can be towards the object of love: Don't you dare to sleep, to dream and even to breathe!  :) And finally I flush it...:)

Manh tinh ta

Anh ơi, Anh hởi Anh đừng ngũ
Vì nhỡ chiêm bao lại quên tôi ?
Anh ơi, Anh hởi Ôi tình nụ
Ngoảnh mặt tìm tôi bóng xa xôi

Vì nhớ Anh rồi, đêm cũng trống
Mà lỡ thương chi, cho rối lòng Anh
Vớ vẩn cái hình chung cái bóng
Tôi dù ú ớ cũng tên Anh

Tên Anh có nhớ, đem tháo nước (flush it?)
Đem thả hồn ra, cá bơi xa
Quyện thân bèo nổi, cá không nói
Chút rong mặt nước, mảnh tình ta

Anh ơi, Anh hởi Anh đừng thở
Vì nhỡ tôi hôn lại không hay ?
Anh ơi, Anh hởi Ôi tình dở
Đem trả cho tôi, mảnh hồn say ...

Fw: [MC74 and Friends] Re: My entry for this week's theme "Transitions"

My romantic twin BiTi and Forum friends,

In response to BiTi's posting, I am sharing with you some pictures of my moon.

Here are what I manage to catch on Saturday as I was chasing after her, at a stop at the gas station (photo no.2) , in the car on the highway ( photo no.1) , on my way walking to the restaurant (no 3, 5 and 6) and standing in my garden (no. 4). Too bad I did not use a tripod, and my hand was not steady, so it was very blurry.

As BiTi observed,  I also thought it was not as chubby as I expected, I have seen her way much bigger and golden bright before, but perhaps it was because I was standing on a very high floor of a building at that time.

Fw: [MC74 and Friends] Fwd: My entry for this week's theme "Transitions/Spring"

Dear friends,

Thank you all for posting so many beautiful pictures of spring from around the world.   They are uplifting and make me appreciate this season of hope, of renewal and rebirth.

I'm not sure what is the maximum number of entries one is allowed to submit for each theme, so I'm taking the liberty of sending in two additional pictures of Transition to Spring.

I'd like to share with you these cay nha la vuon pictures, which I took earlier this morning, to show you that spring has finally come to Texas, and the azaleas are starting to bloom.  This is the loveliest time of the year to be in Dallas.  We'll be enjoying wonderful weather for next two months, before the scorching heat descends on us again.

Please accept these pictures of my backyard flowers as a token of my friendship to you.

Kind regards,

Tuan

Re: [MC74 and Friends] Fwd: My entry for this week's theme "Transitions/Spring"

Dear High Level Blog Executives, fellow bloggers:

Yes, Triet is right. California has been battered by a series of storm
that left us wet and cold like the rest of the country. As a result,
the top of the San Gabriel Mountain in my neck of the woods has been
covered with snow, low clouds and thick fog, while signs of Spring are
obvious on the ground. The view of the mountain is fascinating, but I
must admit I could not capture its beauty with my camera due to lack
of photographic skills. I wish a professional like Doc Doug was here
to help me. Nevertheless, I managed to come up with my entry for the
theme Transition/Spring, ready to be submitted. I am aware of the
stringent rules and regulations set forth by the authorities at the
High Command of the Blog, and am quite confident that my entry is in
total compliance in terms of subject matter and timeliness. I had
obtained an special exemption from Ms EmCi ( allowing me not to follow
the rules), but will save this privilege for another occasion -:).

The view of the mountain, and a poem by Che-Lan-Vien, the verses of
which I will quote later, were my inspiration to compose va`i ca^u
tho* con co'c to submit, along with two photographs. They both show
the mountain top covered with snow, clouds and fog. In one, I took a
page from Mr. K.t.c.'s playbook, and shot the picture in the car while
driving home.

A note to the two "kho' ti'nh" members of the blog Di` Tu* Minh-Thu'y
and CowGirl Luong-Hien: No, this poem was not mu*o*.n or cho^m from
anyone!
